Jane & Eric

ONCE UPON A TIME .... there was a little french man called Eric from Normandy who after managing numerous restaurants and catering companies in the UK and France and a worldwide adventure on the QE2 ended up in York where as all bastions of excellent taste would expect he ended up working at 'Bettys' Tea Rooms.

The lovely Jane was once the madam of her own Tea Rooms in London and after a brief stint as moneypenny in the foreign office and a momentary lapse in judgement working for Barclays she escaped to sunny York with 2 children in tow. Of course being a lover of all good cakes Jane also ended up at 'Bettys' where the rest as they say is history.

With children all grown up and a yearning for paying less for her favourite wine Jane and Eric set off to find new adventures in Europe. They first chased the sun with seasons in Corsica and then more recently winter in the French Alps. In summer 2012 they set off on a driving holiday through Spain (too hot and dry) and predictably found their way back to France.

When driving through the pyrenees with the top down on the mg the breeze blowing and the sun shining they came to the Valle D'Aspe and fell in love. They found a house in the village of Bedous and although having being empty for 15 years and desperately needing the love and cash of a commited buyer they were not afraid of a little bit of hard work (see renovation photos below) and so could immediately imagine the home they could build here together.

The Maison Luard was born, over many months of building, learning new skills, searching far and wide for the perfect furniture and fittings they created what is now a beautiful home and are delighted to have the opportunity to share it with their guests.

When not working tirelessly on their home they enjoy meandering around the beautiful valley on foot or gentle bicycle rides, stopping frequently for coffee, heavenly baked pastries, locally produced cheeses and wines that entice you back day after day.

Jane and Eric look forward to meeting you and sharing the delightful secrets of the Valle D'Aspe in the sunshine.

We would also like to thank Paul and all the wonderful people who work at Emmaus in Pau for their help in finding us the many pieces of beautiful furniture and the treasured finishing touches that now adorn our new home.
